Responding to a safeguarding concern

If you have a Safeguarding concern, it should be reported to the Senior Designated Safeguarding Teacher, Mrs Harrison and if she is not available it needs to be reported to our Designated Safeguarding Lead – Mrs Dunn. The other Designated Teacher is Mr Ford . All pictured above.

KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE

Our commitment

All the governors and staff at The Forest View Academy share an objective to help keep the children safe by contributing to:

Providing a safe environment for them to learn.
Identifying children who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm, and taking appropriate action with the aim of making sure that they are kept safe both at home and in the education setting.

To achieve this objective, we:

Aim to prevent unsuitable people from working with the children
Identify instances where there are grounds for concern about a child’s welfare and initiate or take appropriate action to keep them safe
Contribute to effective partnership working between all those involved in providing services for our children.

The Prevent Duty

As part of The Forest View Academy’s ongoing safeguarding and child protection duties, we are fully behind the government’s Prevent Strategy.

From 1 July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent Duty for Schools.

At The Forest View Academy, we build pupils’ resilience to radicalisation by promoting fundamental British values and enabling our pupils to challenge extremist views.

THE PREVENT DUTY

The statutory guidance refers to the importance of Prevent awareness training to equip staff to identify children at risk of being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas. The Home Office has developed a core training product for this purpose called Channel. All staff in school have completed this training. The training is available to anyone from the below link.

The Designated Teacher for Safeguarding has also completed an NCSB training course on The Prevent Duty.
