Welcome to Year Four

Information for Classes Kenya, Holland and Australia

Year Four is a great place to be at Forest View.  Our class teachers are Miss Warren, Miss Stannard and Mr Mawer. During the year, we will also be working with Mrs Pearce, who will both be teaching our music and Mr Clarke will teach PE.

Our classes are full of enthusiastic and friendly people. In Year Four, we work hard to complete challenges and aim to work as a team at all times. However, it is also important that we try our hardest to become independent learners too.

Reading and Timestables are really important in Year 4. We learn lots of tricks to help you with times tables and we have lots of fun activities and games to help you practice. We also read lots of great books and build a love of reading which encourages you to do lots of reading at home.

This is our Year Four page to let you know all that we have planned for the year.  You can link to and read details of all forthcoming events and upcoming activities opposite as well as follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

Autumn Term.

Year 4 has a great start to the year with lots of interesting topics! We will be learning about the Water Cycle, we even have a visitor from Severn Trent Water who explains how our waste from the sewers gets cleaned before being sent back to through the pipes and into our homes. We also learn about Hinduism, particularly about the festival and Diwali and Holi, we will be having a ‘Wow Day’ where you will have the chance to make a diwa lamp and learn some traditional dance.

After half term, we will move on to learning about Ancient Greece where will make vases out of clay and learn about the beliefs about the Ancient Greeks. Our science topic will be sound.

Spring Term

Spring Term is very busy for Year 4. We go to on a wonderful trip to the MRF where we learn all about recycling and what we can do to look after our environment. In English, we look at ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ and re-written our own version about our shoes! We also learn all about the rainforest, we look at the canopy layers and the wildlife that you find in each layer and create some beautiful art work based on Henri Rousseau.

During Spring term our swimming sessions will start which is a great opportunity.

Summer Term

In the Summer Term we learn all about the Roman Empire and how it impacted Britain. We will also be doing some Roman inspired Mosaics and art that inspired by music.

I am sure you will agree that there is a lot to look forward to!

Christmas Fair

What a fantastic Christmas Fair we have had! The children have worked so hard to make all the decorations in time, and what lovely creations they made. We all enjoyed walking around the different stalls and getting into the festive spirit. Take a look at what we’ve been up to.

Canada’s Willy Wonka inspired hats.

We also really enjoyed making our very own chocolate bars, we looked at how the chocolate melts and what happens to the chocolate when we put different ingredients in it. The best part was when we got to eat the chocolate!

Take 5′ ambassadors

Meet our new ‘Take 5’ ambassadors. Macaulay and Jasmine go through different breathing exercises with us each day after lunch to clam us down and prepare us for the afternoon. We all enjoyed our first take five experience yesterday, I can see it being very successful this year.
