On Wednesday the 5th Of June, as a reward for the hard work Year 6 had put in throughout the year and during their SATs, we invited Hawks of Steele with their birds of prey into school for an amazing experience to witness and learn about the wonders of these beautiful birds. This experienced also linked with our science topic of evolution and inheritance; we learned about how these birds had evolved from dinosaurs to become effective killing machines. We enjoyed an interactive flying display showing how the birds use their specialised features to find their food and catch it. We found out lots of answers to lots of question. How do the birds know where the food is? How do they find food in the wild? What do they eat? The display, which was fun, involved audience participation with birds diving and swooping after food over our heads! We were given the opportunity to handle the birds, which enabled us to be up close to these wonderful birds of prey, and created memories that will last a lifetime.
