After a short journey (and a few rounds of ‘wheels on the bus’), we arrived at Dearne Valley just after 2pm, greeted by our group leader – McKenzie. A quick tour around taught us that Kingswood used to be the ‘Earth Centre’, and the children were amazed to hear about the ‘Living Machine’ which keeps the centre and the River Don clean and pollution free!
Down time…the children have obviously been practising making beds and then we were all set for our first activity…climbing up a huge indoor wall. It was great fun, everyone gave it a good go, some reaching the top and abseiling down. Evening meal was lasagne or chicken – some even tucked into the salad bar!
Our evening activity was ‘Mini-Olympics’ – good fun had by all. Despite being excited, all rooms slept well. You may be surprised to know that some rooms have already scored 8/10 on their tidiness charts – they’re doing a great job!
Looking forward to Day 2 which includes fencing, archery and campfire. Hope the weather is as good in Ollerton!
