On Friday 21st September we visited Newark castle for our ‘Wow day’. In the morning, we explored the castle walls and investigated why the castle was built.
We began our art topic, sketching, selecting different parts of the castle that interested us. We looked for evidence to decide whether the castle was designed for, “Show off or Show Down”
We had a guided tour with four guides who taught us all about crime and punishment in the Norman times! We went to the undercroft, the dungeon, the tower and the Tudor bedroom.
We were even showed the dungeons you were sent to if you didn’t pay your taxes! At any one time there would be up to 80 people held inside!
