To mark the 100 years since the end of the First World War, Year Four staged the play Letters From the Trenches. They told the story of a small village just like Ollerton and impact that the conflict had on those who lived there. We follow the adventures of Joe and his pals in France and their role in the Christmas truce and football match , Grace and her friends and their fight to work, have equal pay and the vote and the effect the war had on family life.
The lead part of Joe was taken by David who delivered his part with confidence, Grace played by Alyssa-Mae who sang a powerful solo and Arthur both surprised and wowed his parents by singing solo too.
The names of 16 men from Ollerton and Boughton are listed on the memorial. These were the men who did not come home. Inside St. Giles church, a roll of honour lists all the men from the village who went to war between 1914 and 1918. There are 109 names. This means that around 15% of the people of Ollerton went away to fight.
