Class India have all arrived safely, unpacked and settled quickly into the routine of St. Michael’s. After the first activity their comments have been – “Great” “Exciting” “Really interesting.”
Once we had unloaded the coach the children were able to spent a few minutes catching up with Class Ireland before they headed back to school. This then allowed us to enjoy our lunch together, have a tour of the centre and then unpack in our dorms. The children are sharing in groups of no more than 6 with their friends that they asked to be with.
After a successful fire drill in which Mrs Bee got left in the hail for a few minutes whilst checking outside doors (much to the adult’s amusement) we headed off to collect our kit. Both Camron-Lee and Madison must have had a growth spurt since filling in our shoe size chart as they both needed much bigger boots! We quickly got ourselves dressed in our matching blue waterproof tops and trousers and fastened up the boots securely before heading out to Brookfield Manor.
At Brookfield Manor we spent the afternoon working on our map skills doing orienteering. We set our maps and worked hard in pairs to share our skills and knowledge as we completed as many challenges as we could. The waterproofs were certainly needed as we had hail and sleet this afternoon- but we carried on regardless as we were warm and dry.
After this we embarked on boat building which proved to be more of an adventure that we planned. The children worked in small groups to build a boat / raft which would safely transport our ducks over a short distance down the brook. We let the boats go at about 3:45 and as we write at 6:20 two ducks are still missing. They have made their escape and are heading off down stream to we can only guess where. We’re hoping that John our group leader doesn’t get into too much trouble as although we lost the black and the white ducks we did find two of St. Michael’s fishing nets that must have been lost on another trip.
Currently Mrs Hutchinson and Miss Pearson are cooking tea – jacket potatoes, burgers, chicken drop sticks and treacle pudding with custard. After tea we will play a few games, maybe have a quiz and settle down ready for what Mrs Bee hopes will be a good sleep.
